Prague has become a one-day capital of European emission permits business. Virtuse Group (Suisse) SA hosted the second round of the European Carbon Forum organized on February 16th.

"We know what condition the market is in. Prices are minimal, which does not stimulate companies, and the meaning and future of the whole mechanism is being discussed. Results of a climate conference in Durban have also caused nervousness. The European Carbon Forum 2012 is a platform for these issues," says Rastislav Vasilisin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Virtuse Group..

International Conference was attended by globally recognized experts in this field. The European Commission's position was presented at the conference by Hans Bergman from the Directorate General of the EC for the Fight against Climate Change. Andreas Carlgren, the former Swedish Minister of Environment, presented his vision of the future of the Kyoto Protocol.

Mr. Robert Seehawer, chief of EEX, one of the biggest emission exchanges, presented expectations before the upcoming emission permits auctions. New structured products related to the carbon emissions trading were presented by Koen Dejonghe, from Statkraft, a Norwegian energy giant.

Not only the representatives of public administration were inspired by a detailed explanation of the globally recognized sale of AAU, the state emission permits, prepared by Martin Bursik, the former Vice-President and Minister of Environment of the Czech Republic.

The conference was taking place in a very current period, immediately before the allocation of emission allowances for this year. "The whole system of the allocation of permits and the trading of permits – EU ETS – will change in less than a year. I believe that, with help from our guest from abroad and representatives of the Ministry of Environment and our team, we helped companies to better understand this issue," added Jan Fousek, Virtuse's Head of Trading.

Conference attended by more than 150 guests from industry and emission trading. It was met with widespread interest amongst prestigious international media such as Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg or The Wall Street Journal. Also czech media as Czech Television, Hospodarske noviny, several financial portals such as E15, investicniweb.cz, financninoviny.cz (CTK) and a portal on European issues euractiv.cz took a chance to report on the conference as well.

The quality of speakers and the scope of the information provided made this event a unique event within the whole Central European area. The first conference took place in Bratislava. After Prague, the organizers want to move this platform to Warsaw.
